Basketball is a pace-and-efficiency sport, so our basketball predictions are built from offensive and defensive rating, possessions per 48 minutes and true shooting rather than raw win-loss records. Back-to-back schedules and injury reports move these lines more than any other sport we cover, which is exactly where the value tends to sit.

Basketball betting markets explained
Every market we publish tips for in basketball settles on a specific question. We only write a call when the data points at that price — the rest of the board stays blank.
Moneyline (Match Winner). A simple pick on which team wins. Basketball has no draw, which makes it a clean two-way market. Best used when rest advantage or a clear net-rating gap exists. Typical odds run 1.30 - 3.00.
Points Handicap (Spread). The favourite starts with a virtual points deficit, levelling the contest into a near coin flip. Best used when a heavy favourite is priced too short on the moneyline. Typical odds run 1.75 - 2.05.
Total Points Over/Under. Whether the combined final score lands above or below the posted line. Best used when pace and defensive efficiency clearly disagree with the line. Typical odds run 1.80 - 1.95.
Team Total Points. Focuses on one side's scoring output only, ignoring what the opponent does. Best used when one offence faces a badly mismatched defence. Typical odds run 1.70 - 2.00.
First Quarter Winner. Settles on the opening 12 minutes only, which removes garbage-time and rotation noise. Best used when a team has a strong, consistent starting five. Typical odds run 1.60 - 2.40.
How we model basketball
These are the inputs that carry the most weight in our basketball model, in roughly the order they matter. Anything not on this list either failed to improve out-of-sample accuracy or duplicated a signal we already had.
- Offensive and defensive efficiency per 100 possessions, adjusted for opponent
- Pace estimates, which drive every total points call we make
- Back-to-back and three-in-four scheduling fatigue
- Official injury reports, including probable and questionable tags
- Rotation depth, since bench minutes decide most spread outcomes
- Home court value, which varies enormously between leagues
